Itinerary

Day
1
Arrival in Copenhagen

For most of the first day’s stage, you will ride along the Køge Bay, with the Baltic Sea always in view. The landscapes of the entirely car-free national park Amager Fælled will impress you, and for art enthusiasts, the chance to visit the Arken Museum of Modern Art is too good to miss. Køge is one of the oldest towns in Denmark and is located right on the coast. The white sandy beaches entice one to take a dip in the cool water.

Today you will say goodbye to the coast. The route takes you inland and you will pass through southern Zealand. A magnificent green landscape with extensive meadows and forests will surround you all the time. The medieval town of Næstved with its old town houses is the ideal place to take a stroll, or you could make an excursion to the Rococo castle Gavnø.

Next; you will ride to the west towards the Great Belt. Soon you will reach the small coastal town of Karrebæksmind. The small sandy beach near Enø is the perfect place to sunbathe. From now on, you will follow the coast, and via the harbour town Skælskør you will reach today’s goal, Korsør. The cosy harbour town has a lively and diverse cultural scene.

On the way, you should make a short stop in Trelleborg. A huge ring fort built around the year 900 BC and a modern museum will tell you about life and culture during the Viking age. Once in Sorø, it is worth visiting the monastery. The old abbey from the 12th century is based on the Cistercian abbey of Fontenay.

Today, you will again be surrounded by lush green meadows and enchanting little villages. After passing the Ise Fjord and Roskilde bay, you will reach Roskilde itself. Its cathedral will welcome you from a distance. Since the beginning of the 15th century, the cathedral has been a favoured cemetery church for the Danish royal family, and since 1995 it is also part of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. It is worth visiting the Viking ship museum too.

The last stage will lead you directly back to the starting point of your journey, the Danish capital Copenhagen. After Albertslund, you will be able to use a just recently built bike path which will bring you into the city centre with almost no traffic. In the afternoon, you will still have enough time to discover the city at your own pace. A leisurely stroll will give you the chance to relive all the wonderful experiences and impressions from your bicycle tour through Zealand.

After breakfast you will travel home. On request we are happy to book an extra night in Køge for you.

Tour character

On the whole an easy cycle tour which leads through flat and soft hilly landscapes. Mostly own bike paths and small streets without much traffic. Only if entering and leaving cities you need to expect some more traffic.
