Slow and steady

The cock crows, the jester tolls the bell a little too early and Chronos, the god of time, turns the hourglass. When the bells ring out in Bern’s old town, one thing becomes clear – time moves differently here. With this in mind, we recommend you take a leisurely approach to this tour. You can quite easily stop for a breather during the ride along the Green Belt (Grünes Band), if not before, on this e-bike trail that takes you through the small towns and villages surrounding Switzerland’s capital city.

The Gantrisch Legend Route is particularly idyllic and getting to hear some of our local legends as you make your way through the Gantrisch Nature Park will wash away the stress of your daily grind and inspire dreams of a bygone age. The historic castle and charming half-timbered houses in Laupen are likewise sure to draw you in. Then, as you ride along the Frienisberg panoramic route, you’ll be able to see as far as the Jura and the Alps. “Slow and steady wins the race,” says the proverb, but it’s not a race. A bike tour on the Little Bern Loop’s such a wonderfully relaxing experience, so why rush at all?

Itinerary

After you’ve dropped your luggage off in Bern, it’s time to hop straight on your bikes. As you leave the bustling city centre behind you and circle the Swiss capital on the quiet side streets along the Green Belt (Grünes Band), your time exploring the Little Bern Loop has begun!

Before long, a magnificent panoramic view of the Bernese Oberland’s snow-covered peaks unfurls before you. From Münsingen, follow the Bern South route and cross the Gürbetal valley. Finally, you’ll ascend to a sunny farm above Wattenwil.

Today, you’ll travel along the Legend Route and explore the Gantrisch Nature Park. Along the way, you’ll get to hear a number of local legends told in the form of stories about prominent places, exciting experiences or happenings from history.

Everything is told either in the local Swiss dialect or in French and is attractively presented at six interactive stations. Your fascinating and entertaining day ends in Rüeggisberg.

You ride along the Längenberg foothills and cross over to Niederwangen today. You could easily call this the “Laupen time trail” as time definitely moves at a different pace along this route. Here, making sure you rest and relax is the order of the day. Laupen, your destination, truly embodies this philosophy

This route takes you past Lake Wohlen and up to the Frienisberg recreation area. The long-distance trail offers one last stunning Alpine view before you head back to Bern along the Green Belt (Grünes Band). Once you arrive in Bern, it’s time to collect your luggage and depart.

Tour character

Whether you turn the motor on or not, this route is a pleasure to ride on an e-bike. The trail around the Swiss capital of Bern passes through the Gantrisch Nature Park, the Laupen region and over the Frienisberg plateau. It’s largely free of traffic and boasts spectacular views, but there are some steep climbs. Some shorter sections are unpaved, but these are nonetheless easy to ride.

For many trips, we use luggage counters at train stations at the beginning and end of the journey for convenient baggage drop-off and collection. This can easily be combined with your train travel. If you have a GA travelcard, you can indicate this when booking, and we will credit the amount to your invoice.

If you don’t use the coupon for your trip, you can redeem it later in the year. Please note that retroactive refunds are not possible for administrative reasons.
